What is the Ice Fishing League and how does it work?

The Ice Fishing League is a community-driven league in Alberta for ice fishing enthusiasts. Participants compete to catch the longest fish of multiple species, with results submitted and verified through Anlgers Atlas’ App “MyCatch”. Competitions take place on any public lakes within Alberta.

The league operates province-wide in Alberta, featuring any public lake.

Participants of all ages are welcome

Is there a fee?

Yes, there is a membership fee to cover administrative costs, event organization, and prize funding. Details about fees are available on the website under the registration section.

Competition and Rules

How Are The League’s competitions Structured?

Categories are structured into different sizes, of each specific species of fish.

What are the rules for catching and measuring fish?

Fish must be caught following Alberta’s fishing regulations, and measurements are submitted with clear photos of the fish alongside a measuring device. Specific details on rules can be found in the league rules

What species of fish are eligible for competitions?

Brook Trout, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Tiger Trout, Burbot, Lake Whitefish, Walleye & Yellow Perch

Why are northern pike not apart of the league?

At this time and as per Provincial regulations, we will not accept any Northern Pike entry submissions for this event as it is not supported by the current policy. This will be reviewed on a yearly basis, and we are hoping to have this species added next year. Sorry for the inconvenience as this has been a hot topic for us.

Can you see the location of my catches?

No! We have no access to the general area or GPS coordinates. The automated system only determines whether it’s within the boundaries of Alberta.

Are any border lakes fully included in the boundary?

The complete boundaries of these lakes are in the zone for the league regardless of the provincial boundary: Cold Lake

When does the league season start and end?

Nov.1 till March 31. This gives a fair to start to the entire province.

How are competition results announced?

Results are announced online, with updates posted on the league’s website or social media channels and officially on Anglers Atlas. Winners are notified directly via email.

Are there prizes for competition winners?

Yes! Winners receive prizes such as fishing gear or cash. We also have weekly giveaways for everyone in the league!

How can I become a sponsor for the league?

Sponsors can support the league by contacting us at alberta@icefishingleague.ca. Sponsorship packages include logo placements, event mentions, and promotional opportunities.

Are safety guidelines provided for participants?

Please refer to Alberta’s safety tips here and test ice thickness. You fish at your own liability.

Does the league adhere to provincial fishing regulations?

Absolutely. All competitions are conducted in strict compliance with Alberta’s fishing regulations, ensuring sustainability and legal practices.
